Welcome to Lincoln Tri's 2008 Wolds Brick series. The popular series of races returns again this season.
Results from previous seasons are also now available in spreadsheet form. The results are complete, with the exception of 2005 where I seem to have lost most of the results when I took over the website.
In case you didn't know, a "brick" is a term commonly used for a training session consisting of a bike ride immediately followed by a run and is an excellent training session for triathletes to get used to the bike-run transition.
Please arrive no later than 6.45pm for the first rider to be away at 7.00pm. The later you arrive, the later you start! Participants are usually seeded depending on their expected finishing time, with slowest riders off first.
This years events are on the following dates:
| Date | Comment |
| 13/5/08 | Results |
| 10/6/08 | |
| 08/7/08 | Results |
| 12/8/08 | |
| 09/9/08 | Bike only followed by annual club presentations and dinner at the Bluebell Inn. All welcome including family and friends and non members |
Thanks to Terry for kindly organising the Wolds' Bricks once again.
The start and finish for the event is located at the Village Hall in the village of Belchford in the beautiful Lincolnshire Wolds. The cycle and run are on quiet country roads usually with very little traffic. If you are used to time trialling on "A" roads, welcome to the countryside, and for those of you who think Lincolnshire is flat - think again. The cycle is a circuit taking in 2 climbs up Belchford Hill and Ruckland Hill, and the run is an out and back loop up Fulletby Hill. The nearby Blue Bell Inn is also an excellent pub including fine ales and superb quality food so please stay around for a drink and a chat afterwards.
This is a club training event and is open to anyone whether a member of Lincoln Tri or not. Entry for the event will be £1 to be paid on the night. When you arrive (and have paid!) you will be given a number and a start time. Please ensure you are ready to start at your allotted time or you will go to the back of the queue! Riders will start at 30 second intervals with the first rider going off at 7pm. Please arrive in plenty of time so that we can start promptly.
There will be no formal transition area but the bike/run changeover will be immediately in front of the Village Hall. There is no changing or toilet facilities although the proprietor of the Bluebell Inn will usually allow people to use the toilets here as long as this facility is not abused.
The events are unsupported meaning there are no marshals on route. You are responsible for finding your own way around the course although there will be direction arrows painted on the road. All participants take part at their own risk.
Under 18s are welcome, but like all other participants will race at their own risk. Younger children should be supervised by their parents or a nominated responsible adult.
No medical facilities will be available in the case of accident or illness.
The village hall has also allowed limited parking up to about 10 cars. Alternatively park on the verges in the village but please respect access for local people. Please do not park at the Bluebell Inn as in previous years it had been noted by the proprietor that we starting to cause a nuisance to other customers.
The event will be run as a bike-run time trial event - the clock is started when you start the cycle, and stopped when you finish the run. AND you MUST wear a helmet! NO HELMET NO RACE! All participants will be expected to ride and run according to the Highway Code. Anybody putting another participant or another road user in danger from dangerous riding will be asked not to participate in future. Roads are not closed to traffic.
Cycle - 10 miles
From the start. go straight out of Belchford and after a mile or so, climb Belchford
Hill. At the top turn RIGHT. Continue on this road and turn left at the first
opportunity. This road takes a slight bend to the right before entering into
a very long and fast descent. BE CAREFUL THERE IS GRAVEL AT THE BOTTOM. Avoiding
the gravel ride up a very steep hill. Continue along this road until you reach
the next left turn. Take this turn and follow the road ignoring turn-offs to
Farforth and Maidenwell. At the crossroads turn left, to ride up a short hill.
Keep going along this road. At the T junction at the top of Belchford Hill turn
RIGHT, descend back into Belchford and back to the Village Hall.
The run is a straightforward out and back course. Follow the cycle route back through Belchford for 500m until you come to a junction where you turn RIGHT (signposted Fulletby). Run up Fulletby Hill until you reach a T-junction on your right (signposted Tetford). Run around the signpost in the middle of the junction and then follow the route back down the hill to Belchford and the finish.
These events are ideal for people that have limited or no experience of multisport events like triathlon or dualthlon. Whilst many of the faster participants are competitive, there is room for all abilities and experiences. In fact the last competitor back usually gets the loudest cheer.
For those of you who are contemplating triathlon or duathlon in the future, this is an ideal opportunity for you to meet other like minded people many of whom are experienced triathletes who will be glad to talk to you about your concerns and worries about entering your first races. We’ve all been there so we know what its like. If you really are worried about taking part, why not come along and watch first and meet us all?
